2012 SXSW Interactive Festival Speaker Agreement
Congratulations again on being selected to speak at the 2012 SXSW Interactive Festival, scheduled March 9-13 in Austin, Texas.
To help you better understand what is expected of you as a SXSW speaker we have created this "SXSW Speaker Agreement" which outlines all your responsibilities as a speaker.
Proving your digital signature on this Speaker Agreement let's us know that you are ready and willing to make your SXSW speaking experience the best it can be.
Once we receive your digital signature you will be AUTOMATICALLY registered with a complimentary GOLD SXSW Panelist badge. If you have already registered for the event you will be contacted about your options.
After you receive your registration confirmation you will be sent your SXSocial login and information on how you can use SXSocial to take advantage of the protected block of hotel rooms reserved for speakers at the event. Please do NOT contact our housing desk until you have made your housing requests via SXSocial.
Below is a custom URL for your Speaker Agreement. Please read and electronically sign ASAP. The sooner we receive your signature, the sooner you can book your hotel room via your SXSocial account.
You will find more information about many of the items below in the 2012 SXSW Speaker FAQ at http://sxsw.com/interactive/speaker_faq.
If you have additional speaker-related questions, please e-mail us at interpanels@sxsw.com.
1. RESPONSIBILITY. I understand that speaking at SXSW is an important responsibility. If I decide that I do not have the appropriate time and energy to devote to this responsibility, I will notify SXSW and SXSW will replace me with another speaker.
2. PREPARATION. I understand that if I am participating on a panel, workshop or core conversation, I am expected to communicate with other speakers on my session before the event. I understand that if I am delivering a solo presentation or doing a book reading, I am expected spend a significant amount of time preparing for my speaking slot before the event.
3. SPEAKER FAQ. I understand that the SXSW Speaker FAQ (XXXX) is an important resource. I pledge to spend at least 15 minutes reading this Speaker FAQ.
4. INTERACTIVE SPEAKING ASSISTANT. I understand that SXSW uses a speaking assistance program to help facilitate better communication between speakers, session organizers and SXSW panels staff. If a speaking assistant is assigned to me, I pledge to work with this person.
5. BIO AND HEADSHOT. I understand that it is my responsibility to upload my own bio and headshot to SXSocial so that they will appear with my session listing in the online schedule. I will receive my SXSocial account information once I have been registered as a speaker for the event.
6. SESSION PRODUCTION GUIDE. I understand that SXSW uses an online Session Production Guide to help session organizers manage their session. If I am not the organizer of the session I am speaking on, I will communicate any scheduling conflicts, technical or special needs to my session organizer so that they can use the Session Production Guide to make these needs known to the SXSW panels staff.
7. ONE SESSION PER SPEAKER. I understand that SXSW Interactive allows speakers to participate in only one SXSW Interactive Festival session during the event. If I have been asked to speak on more than one SXSW Interactive session I will choose the one most suited to my particular field of knowledge and experience.
8. OTHER SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS DURING SXSW. I understand that other technology-related events are sometimes scheduled at other venues around the city during SXSW. If I am invited to speak at other events during this time-period, I will clear these invitations with SXSW before accepting.
9. BADGE PICK UP AND GREEN ROOM. I understand that when I arrive at the Austin Convention Center, I will need to pick up my badge at the Panelist Check-In kiosk in the registration area in plenty of time to arrive at my Green Room at least an hour before my session is scheduled to begin (see the Speaker FAQ for more specific information).
10 FOCUS AND DIFFICULTY LEVEL. I understand that staying on the topic outlined in the title and description of my session is very important. During my session, I pledge to stay focused on the topic at hand and make sure that the information presented adheres to the difficulty level ("beginner" or "intermediate" or "advanced") designated for my session.
11. ALLOTTED TIME. I understand that all panel sessions, solo presentations, workshops, core conversations and book readings adhere to a very precise schedule / time limit. I understand that the time I spend talking about the fabulous networking event that I attended last night is time that cannot be devoted to the topic at hand -- so, I should refrain from making these references during my session.
12. PRESENTATION RELEASE. I understand that SXSW will send me a Presentation Release form as we get closer to the event. This Presentation Release form will give SXSW permission to audio-tape my session. I pledge to electronically sign this presentation release form in a timely manner if I am OK with SXSW recording my session.
If you are having problems signing this online agreement please email releases@sxsw.com. For all other speaker-related question, please refer to the Speaker FAQ, or email interpanels@sxsw.com.
Regards.
